Bone spurs of the feet are a very common problem, typically occurring in the heel and near the toes. A heel spur is a growth of bone on the underside of the heel bone. Heel spurs form when the plantar tendon pulls at its attachment to the heel bone. Spurs can also develop on the top of the big toe joint. Anti-inflammatory medications and cortisone injections are common treatments for spurs, but surgery may be recommended if spurring around the joint becomes severe.
