A wound is a break in the skin typically caused by cuts or scrapes. Different types of wounds need to be treated differently. Podiatrists typically treat wounds on the foot and ankle of diabetic patients. Diabetic patients should inspect their feet every day, looking for puncture wounds, bruises, pressure areas, redness, warmth, blisters, ulcers, scratches, cuts and nail problems. If left untreated, these wounds can have major complications and may result in amputation.
